about
Sometimes we are trodden down by the weight of the world or by the weight of our own expectations of ourselves and sometimes in order to go forward, there is a need to reconcile with the past. This song needed to find a home to be finished and it found its home at the base of the Wentworth falls in NZ. This was my happy place where I could go and connect as a child with the glory of nature I would lie down and let my hands be washed clean with dreams of happiness I could not find. This is a healing song and I hope you find some healing in it yourself.
I entered this song into The Basin Music Festival Songwriting Competition and this song won me a beautiful handmade Sachar Amos OM guitar, which I used on this track.
I commissioned my beautiful friend and superb artist Gabby Willmott to create a beautiful painting for the release of this song and she has birthed something truly beautiful that captures the spirit of the song.
lyrics
[Verse1]
Spread out on the ground
Smacked down, sixteen times today
My head rings with the sound
Of timber, breaking clay
Voices in my head
Don’t let, me get, to sleep
The valley of the shadow
I’m always tryin’ to leave
[PreChorus]
Is it me? Or am I feelin' old
I forget, the things you do for me.
Oh please, I wanna hold you close again To believe , to believe
[Chorus]
Take me back ( to the sunshine after rain)
Take me back (to the mountain and the flame
Take me back to the river Let me Dream
[Verse]
Hands in front of my face
Remembering the smile behind your frown
A sinner for this bread
And I keep runnin, clear out this town
Words they seldom heal
They shred, upon, release
But they open up a way
To maybe find some peace
[PreChorus]
Is it me? Do these wages lead to blood
I forget, how much your love has cost Oh please, let me clean away the mud To believe.... To believe
[Repeat Chorus]
